Lin Shuen Long
The children that peopled Lin’s work Beyond the Border: Tide, created in Obe Port on Shodoshima in 2016, return after 9 years. Child statues, each representing a nation of the world, are arranged near the beach, their origin indicated by numbers showing the distance from their nation’s capital, as well as latitude and longitude coordinates, and by the direction in which each figure faces. Exposed to the sea breeze with their feet planted on the soft sand, the children lean forward, smiling, hands pressed to their chests as they pray for world peace and future happiness. The work becomes a message transmitting positive energy to every corner of the world.
